Sõrve is the name given to the Estonian Children’s Summer Camp, a cherished tradition held at the Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre on Lake Macquarie, NSW.

Every generation has its own Sõrve story. For some, it begins with the excitement of arriving at camp for the very first time.
For others, it’s the friendships that have lasted a lifetime, the traditions shared with family, or the joy of returning each summer to a place that feels like home. Whatever brings you here, welcome.
For close to 75 years, Sõrve has brought generations of Australian-Estonians together to celebrate language, culture, friendship and belonging. More than an annual summer camp, Sõrve is a living tradition that connects young people and families with their heritage while inspiring each new generation to carry it forward with pride.
At the heart of Sõrve is a belief that culture is best experienced together. We create opportunities for children and young people to grow in confidence, leadership and teamwork, while families come together to share traditions, build lasting friendships and strengthen our community.
Many of today’s volunteers, organisers and community leaders first discovered their love of Sõrve as campers, continuing a tradition of giving back that has helped our community flourish for more than seven decades.
Although camp is the highlight of our year, the Sõrve spirit lives on long after summer ends. Through community events, creative projects and opportunities to volunteer, we remain connected until we gather once again.
Like the ceremonial flame lit each year at camp, the Sõrve flame reminds us of those who came before us, the friendships that continue to grow, and the traditions we proudly carry forward together.
Sõrve is proudly organised by the Sydney Estonian Parents and Friends Association Inc. (Sõrve Sõbrad), a community-funded, not-for-profit volunteer organisation and member of the Austraalia Eesti Seltside Liit (AESL).
Guided by its constitution and supported entirely by volunteers, the Association is committed to ensuring Sõrve continues to thrive for generations to come.

For one unforgettable week each summer, Sõrve becomes a world of adventure where imaginations run wild, laughter fills the air, and lifelong friendships are made. Seven days. A lifetime of memories.
It’s a place where children are encouraged to explore, create, perform, play, and simply enjoy the magic of being together.
Every year, camp is transformed around a new theme, bringing fresh stories and new adventures while staying true to the traditions that generations have come to love. From imaginative games and colourful theme nights to music, performances, sport and shared moments around camp, every experience is thoughtfully created to spark curiosity, encourage teamwork and create memories that last long after camp has ended.
What makes Sõrve truly special isn’t just what we do, it’s how it feels. It’s the excitement of hearing familiar songs, the confidence gained from trying something new, the friendships that pick up exactly where they left off each January, and the quiet sense of belonging that keeps families returning year after year.
The countdown to next summer begins the moment camp ends.
Since 1953, generations have discovered that Sõrve is more than a place or a week on the calendar. It’s where traditions are shared, stories are passed on, friendships are strengthened and new memories become part of a legacy that continues with every generation.
The Sõrve Sõbrad Committee
None of this would be possible without the Sõrve Sõbrad Committee, a devoted team of volunteers who put in the work throughout the year to help make Sõrve happen.
Their dedication helps nurture the spirit of Sõrve, strengthen our connections, and ensure the flame continues to grow for generations to come.
From community events and projects to ways you can contribute, connect and give back, there will be many ways to stay part of the Sõrve story.
The committee is also tasked with governance, supervision and mentorship of Sõrve Leadership – the young volunteers who organise and run the camp.

Not-for-Profit Status
We are thrilled to share that the Sydney Estonian Parents & Friends Association Incorporated (Sõrve Sõbrad) has officially received not-for-profit status early 2026!
This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to the Sõrve community and to nurturing Estonian culture, language, customs and traditions amongst young people of Estonian background in Australia.
What this means is simple: every dollar raised goes back into supporting all things Sõrve. From programs and experiences to future opportunities for our community, all funds are reinvested where they matter most.
This new status also enhances our ability to apply for grants and funding, helping us bring new ideas and long-term projects to life.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Danae from the Sõrve Sõbrad Committee for her dedication and work in helping make this happen. It is through the generosity, care and commitment of our volunteers that Sõrve continues to grow and thrive.
